Choosing the New Nidnoi

When you start your research for Catamaran in the range 55 ft to 70 ft

  • Production cats in the size 1,3 to 2,5 million
  • Performance cats 2.8 to 4.5 Million   

        

Yes, performance cats are between 40-50% more expensive than your usual productions Catamarans with all the options, etc. so if want to be able to go upwind and sail in light winds 5-7 knots you don’t have as much choice downside is you will lose living space and carrying capacity for all your toys.

The next step was then to look into centerboards or daggerboards sadly not many Catamaran builders offer Centerboard I only managed to find one which was Mcconaghy (did I miss brands??) sadly all their models are with sail handling on a Flybridge type which for sure gives a nice view and awesome space to sit while cruising in the med etc.

However, I am not sure how I would feel to walk up there to change sails position or reef when it is autumn in Scandinavia or Canada. And we are having a nice autumn storm however if Nidnoi would be sailing in the same areas as 95% of liveaboard sailors are doing then yes they would be on my shortlist. (so as you can Guess Mcconaghy  are not on my shortlist) So next step was to narrow down even further Brands and models those who did not make the shortlist. Does not mean they are not awesome Catamarans  or models but not suited to be our new Nidnoi

So now that we have narrowed it down we started the initial conversation with the sales department or representatives in august 2020 where I dedicated in the ballpark of 10-15 hours a week during research investigation etc.
